Description
The Diptyque DP107 is a magnetostatic floorstanding speaker. Its design uses a large mylar foil for midrange and low frequencies, and a smaller ribbon tweeter for high frequencies.
Product information
In total, the DP107 can play back 40 Hz - 19 kHz. This is thanks to a special technique used by Diptyque: push/pull technology. This means that by controlling the mylar film with a musical signal, it is either attracted or pushed from the back or front. The result is optimal and uniform control.
By definition, a magnetostat is bipolar, which means it pushes energy back and forth. Take this into account when placing and acoustically processing. Bipolar speakers show that they have a lot of interaction with the room. The most amazing thing about magnetostats is the ease with which they play. Everything seems so “normal”. The same goes for these Diptyque DP107s.
Bass and midrange come from the same “source” or foil in this case. In the DP107, the treble comes from a separate ribbon that is at the same depth, with a simple 1st order filter in between. As already mentioned, the Diptyque DP107 is very easy to play, the power is stable, and it can withstand quite a lot of load. The bass goes down to about 40 Hz, which is suitable for 90% of genres. In most music, it's not needed anymore.
If you really need a powerful and extreme bass component, you can always add a subwoofer. Or buy a larger model. The DP160 goes down to 30 Hz. The Diptyque DP107 is technically excellent and performs well in its class. It all depends on how someone sets them up. If you place them correctly and the tilt is correct, then Diptyque simply reproduce music well and thanks to this, you can realize balanced reproduction.
