Description
The 3-way Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 is the flagship of the new 700 Series with the S3 index and the most advanced floorstanding speaker that sets a new level of quality in its class.
The carbon dome tweeter is housed in an all-new massive cabinet, borrowed from the 800 Diamond series. This delivers even more realistic high frequencies, while the mechanically decoupled midrange driver, reinforced by a revolutionary bionic suspension, provides outstanding transparency and openness in the midrange. And thanks to a new downward-firing phase inverter port configuration and three Aerofoil bass cones, the 702 S3 is capable of delivering bass that is both incredibly deep and incredibly clear. If you want the best, this is the one for you.
The carbon dome tweeter cones are specially designed for the 700 Series. Providing a dramatic improvement over the aluminum dual-dome woofer, they raise the first resonance frequency to 47 kHz, delivering high accuracy and detail in the sound image. A longer loading tube contributes to an even freer and more open sound at high frequencies. The carefully decoupled mechanical enclosure is milled from a solid block of aluminum to better resist resonances.
First used in the 800 Diamond series, the bionic centering washer suspension revolutionizes the performance of the 700 series midrange cone. It dramatically reduces the unwanted air pressure and sound coloration associated with a traditional fabric centering washer. The result? Incredible midrange transparency you wouldn't expect. Thanks to its composite construction, the ContinuumTM cone avoids the harsh transients in behavior that can degrade the sound of conventional speakers. The result is a more open, neutral production that conveys voices and instruments with great accuracy and transparency.
All floorstanding speakers in the new 700 Series utilize a mechanically decoupled midrange driver, which improves clarity and openness in the midrange. Developed using advanced computer modeling techniques, the AerofoilTM bass driver cone is variable in thickness, providing rigidity and strength where it is needed most. A new curved front panel and separate driver enclosures significantly reduce sound coloration for a clearer, more immersive sound.
Precision sound
The 700 Series utilizes a host of cutting-edge technologies borrowed from our award-winning Diamond 800 Series to deliver best-in-class sound quality.
HF cone in a massive enclosure
The 700 Series utilizes the latest generation of the iconic tweeter cone, with an extended, solid one-piece enclosure. The longer load tube contributes to an even freer and more open sound at high frequencies. The carefully decoupled mechanical enclosure is milled from a solid block of aluminum to better resist resonances.
Carbon dome tweeter cone
The carbon dome tweeter is specially designed for the 700 Series. Providing a dramatic improvement over the aluminum dual-dome tweeter, it raises the first resonance frequency to 47 kHz, delivering high fidelity and detail.
Mechanical decoupling of the woofer
All 3-Way speakers in the new 700 Series feature a separate midrange driver that utilizes four key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: Continuum cone, FST suspension, bionic center puck suspension, and vibration decoupling to minimize interference from the bass drivers.
Bionic suspension
Sometimes you have to think outside the box to make a difference. The transition from our famous yellow aramid fiber midrange cones to Continuum technology has resulted in a significant improvement in midrange performance. Now we have turned our attention to another important element: the fabric centering washer. The new bionic suspension revolutionizes its performance by significantly reducing the unwanted air pressure and sound coloration associated with traditional fabric centering washers. The result? Incredible midrange transparency you never thought possible.
ContinuumTM cone
Thanks to its composite construction, the ContinuumTM cone avoids the harsh transients in behavior that can degrade the sound of conventional speakers. The result is a more open, neutral production that delivers voices and instruments with great accuracy and transparency.
Curved front panel
The new 700 Series features a curved front panel for the first time. This allows the midrange and bass drivers to be placed in separate “capsules” that protrude from the front panel. Combined with the curved design, this new approach, borrowed from the 800 Diamond series, reduces the contribution of the cabinet itself, creating a clearer, more open and more immersive sound.
AerofoilTM bass driver cone profile
Developed using advanced computer modeling techniques, the AerofoilTM bass driver cone features variable thicknesses to provide stiffness and strength where it is needed most. The result: deep, dynamic bass.
