Description

Replacing the five-time What Hi-Fi Product of the Year winner, the RP3, was no easy task. Rega's design team, led by Roy Gandy, took two years to complete the most ambitious redesign of the iconic vinyl record player you've ever seen.
The development team has worked tirelessly to improve every aspect of this vinyl record player, including improved ergonomics, comfort and ease of use, but above all the acoustic parameters. The Rega Planar 3 is a truly new player for 2016, inheriting only two details from the previous model.

New tonearm RB330

Designed using computer simulation, the new RB330 tonearm is the culmination of more than 35 years of tonearm design experience. At your service is a completely new bearing housing, and the tonearm tube is designed using intelligent mass redistribution, ensuring that this tonearm will have fewer points of possible resonance. The extremely stable high-precision bearing with almost zero friction allows you to get more information from your vinyl than ever before.

"Mass absorbs energy - energy lost equals music lost!"

Rega pioneered the use of lightweight solid tables. The ingenious combination of a light core with a very rigid shell made of phenolic resin became the basis for the high level of sound of the iconic vinyl players of the Planar series.

The new Rega Planar 3 takes this design philosophy to the next level. The lightweight acrylic laminate table is reinforced with the new and improved Double Brace system, which is installed exactly where increased rigidity is needed (between the tonearm mounting hole and the main bearing of the backing plate). This rigid table construction prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances that add unnatural distortion to the sound.
Likewise, more mass can transfer more unwanted energy from the motor or bearing directly to the vinyl. The use of steel brackets in these key areas instead of a simple cast table provides weight reduction on the plinth, which is aimed at absorbing mass and unwanted energy transfer.
