CXN v2 Network Player Lunar Grey

The second generation all-round network streamer Cambridge Audio CXN v2 continues to build on the success of its predecessor.

The main difference between the new player is the presence on board of a more powerful DSP processor, which increases data processing speed, ensures quick start and guarantees smooth operation of the graphics of the 4.3-inch TFT color display built into the front panel, displaying menus, album covers, information about track, etc. The device boasts twice the amount of RAM memory, as well as the ability to rewind within one track when playing files over a local network, from online services or from drives connected via USB. Cambridge Audio CXN v2 has access to highly efficient MPEG-DASH adaptive streaming technology, which delivers adaptive bitrate streaming content over the Internet via HTTP. This ensures better streaming quality. Plus, the Apple-developed HLS communication protocol, which also uses HTTP, is supported.

The model still features Adaptive Time Filtering (ATF2) technology to upsample received audio files to 24-bit/384 kHz, which are then sent to two Wolfson WM8740 DACs (one per channel). According to the company, this oversampling makes the sound cleaner, deeper and more detailed.

The Cambridge Audio CXN v2 player supports playback of Hi-Res files over a local network via Wi-Fi or LAN, as well as from USB drives. There is built-in access to the Spotify Connect online service and a huge number of web stations. The AirPlay function is available, and to implement a Bluetooth connection with support for the aptX codec, you can install the BT100 USB dongle (optional). The latest firmware version adds support for the Tidal service, Google Cast protocol (also known as Chromecast Built-in) and APEv2 tags.

The neatly processed aluminum facade of the device looks quite modern, and the body has good damping. There is a USB port on the front for flash drives and hard drives. The player can be used as a digital preamplifier, as it allows you to adjust the volume and balance. You can control the model via the remote control or the Cambridge Connect App, which opens up even more possibilities.

The streamer has a wide selection of digital connectors, an asynchronous USB port with an XMOS controller, DSD64 support and a ground disconnect function, as well as balanced and unbalanced analog outputs. There is a USB for Wi-Fi dongle with antenna. The Cambridge Audio CXN v2 provides high quality sound and is, in fact, a good multifunctional signal source.
