Description
The Pro-Ject A2 continues the success of fully mechanical automatic turntables. With the A2, you can now select the output point for 7" (singles) or 12" (LP) for 45 RPM records. The developers also added a speed of 78 revolutions per minute, which allows you to go back to the old one
Product information
To enjoy listening to your A2, simply press the "Start" button and the tonearm will automatically move to the input groove of the record. At the end of the recording, the tonearm automatically returns and gently lowers to the rest position, and the motor is turned off.
And since the automation works completely mechanically - no additional electronics are required - it really does not affect or degrade the sound quality during playback! At the end of the recording, the tonearm automatically returns and gently lowers to the rest position, and the motor is turned off.
Subchassis
Automatic turntables have a lot of small mechanical parts, which means you need more voids in the chassis to accommodate them. Hollow spaces are the biggest problem because they always amplify the resonance. By using a sub-chassis, you disconnect the tonearm and control the drive independent of the chassis. In other words, a sub chassis is a MUST for auto turntables and allows you to achieve great sound performance. The A2 uses a subchassis design where the tonearm, plate bearing and motor are mounted on a separate floating subchassis. This additionally isolates all the most important elements of the turntable and adds an additional level of protection against external noise, resonances and interference. This has especially big advantages when your speakers are very close to the player.
Improved automatic mechanism
Pro-Ject invested in a new cast aluminum top for the entire undercarriage and automatic mechanism. They tried to avoid the plastic parts of the original German automatic design as much as possible. This is the first time in all 50 years of existence that the original automatic design has received such an improvement. Thanks to the new cast aluminum cover and massive chassis, the entire sub-chassis design is more efficient and much better at isolating unwanted resonance.
Improved tonearm
The A2 features an 8.3-inch ultra-lightweight aluminum tonearm with an improved, larger-diameter tonearm tube. It is perfect for the slightly heavier Ortofon 2M Red. Combined, we keep the ultra-fast response and all the transient details with plenty of subtle micro-dynamics, while the new 2M Red adds plenty of detail and musical warmth. The tonearm bearing has been significantly updated, now made of aluminum and has a 4-point gimbal design with in-house steel ball bearings. This ensures smooth and free movement of the tonearm with the least possible friction. A2 will track your vinyl records with maximum accuracy and reliability.
