Design philosophy
The M3x VINYL has been converted, like its big brother M6x VINYL, to a fully discrete circuit, resulting in better technical dimensions and better sound. It is equipped with one asymmetrical input and output. But the important question is: what is so special about discrete circuits?

The advantage of discrete circuits
A discrete circuit consists of electronic components that are discrete individual devices, also called discrete components. These can be passive components, such as resistors, capacitors and inductors, as well as active components, which in our case are transistors. The opposite of this would be an integrated circuit that uses operational amplifiers (OPs) in the signal circuit. Musical Fidelity uses specialized operational amplifiers designed for audio applications that allow for very compact and efficient electronics, saving design engineers time. However, countless hours of listening and years of experience have shown that even the best operational amplifiers cannot be as neutral, natural, dynamic or bright as Musical Fidelity's sound characteristics. For this reason, Musical Fidelity rediscovers its passion for traditional, discrete design. If standard integrated circuit phono stage amplifiers contain several dozen or hundreds of components, discrete designs will use hundreds or thousands of components for comparison. This requires a lengthy design process, but in our opinion, gives you the best sound for your money.

Toroidal power transformer
A special audio transformer with a low saturation level of the core reduces the level of electromagnetic radiation, which is very important, because otherwise any phono amplifier will never be able to work properly. Together with the distance between the transformer and the amplification section, and the electromagnetic shield, an incredibly high signal-to-noise ratio is created. If we are working with a few hundred microvolts from the phono stage, everything plays a role; Every decibel of signal-to-noise ratio is crucial. Passive equalizer division
Many other phono equalizers use a single correction network in the global feedback loop. With the help of the equalizer circuit, the amplified signal from the phono stage output is returned to the phono stage input. This is the aforementioned feedback loop, and the results, as you can see, do not live up to the high standards of Musical Fidelity's design philosophy. The M3x VINYL uses split passive equalization in separate gain stages with no global negative feedback loops for its RIAA curve. This is more expensive to design and implement, but provides the most accurate representation of the ideal EQ curve. Split passive equalization provides better impedance matching and less deviation from the ideal RIAA curve.
