**Tartak** is a Ukrainian band from Lutsk, specializing in hip-hop, rapcore, alternative rock, and crossover genres that blend guitar rock, hip-hop, and dance music. Formed in 1996 by Oleksandr "Sashko" Polozhynskyi, who served as leader, vocalist, songwriter, and artistic director until February 2020. Polozhynskyi created Tartak to participate in the 1996 Chervona Ruta festival, submitting under the modern dance category with the name inspired by a woodsaw, symbolizing energy and activity; he later assembled the band and wrote most songs. Their debut album, *Demo hrafichnyi vyby’k* (also referenced as *Demographic explosion*), arrived in 2001, earning critical acclaim for its genre diversity and satirical edge, partly funded through Polozhynskyi's TV hosting gig mocking Russian pop. Follow-up albums like *Systemni zlam* and *Optymisty* highlighted their musical versatility and lyrical depth on social and political themes. Key hits include "Ni Ya, Ni Ti" (an anthem), "Zhiti," "Golos krovi," "Popeliushka," "Ni, ia ne tu kokhav," and "Stil'nikove kokhannia." Notable collaborations feature "UA 4 BY" with Belarusian band Чирво́ным па Бе́лым and Epicenter of the Union (2007), plus "Znaiesh mii den'" with Arsen Mirzoian, "Popeliushka" with Numer 482, "MikrOFF/ONna perevirka" with Rolliks, "Khvilia" with Epolets, and "Zachitai" with Mari Cheba.
