Tarja Turunen is a Finnish singer, songwriter, and composer best known for her pioneering role in symphonic metal and classical crossover music. Born in Finland, she gained international recognition as the original lead vocalist of Nightwish, helping define the sound of symphonic metal through her classically trained soprano voice.

Tarja's musical journey began with formal studies in classical singing in Finland and Germany. In 1996, she co-founded Nightwish, a band that revolutionized metal music by combining heavy guitar-driven compositions with operatic vocals. During her time with the band, she recorded landmark albums such as Angels Fall First (1997), Oceanborn (1998), Wishmaster (2000), Century Child (2002), and Once (2004). Many of Nightwish’s most celebrated songs, including “Nemo,” “Wish I Had an Angel,” “Sleeping Sun,” “Wishmaster,” and “Over the Hills and Far Away,” were recorded with her vocals.

Following her departure from Nightwish in 2005, Tarja launched a successful solo career.
