A is a contemporary Ukrainian music project founded in 2013 by Nata Zhyzhchenko and Yevhen Filatov. The name ONUKA is a symbol of respect for national heritage, as the project is inspired by the work of Nata's grandfather, who was a master of folk instruments. The band quickly became known for its unique blend of electronic music with Ukrainian folk elements, creating a fresh and original sound.
ONUKA's music is a synthesis of electronics, techno and ethno elements. The project actively uses Ukrainian folk instruments, such as sopilka, trembita, and bandura, which creates an authentic musical style. In addition, the sound is characterized by multi-layered arrangements that add depth to each composition. The topics of the songs range from environmental issues to cultural identity.
Among ONUKA's most famous albums are their debut album ONUKA (2014) and the EP Vidlik (2016), which was created after the Chernobyl disaster and is dedicated to its consequences. The tracks “Look”, “Vidlik”, and “Time” have become the band's trademark, attracting the attention of listeners both in Ukraine and abroad.
ONUKA actively represents Ukraine on the international music scene, performing at major festivals such as Sziget and Eurosonic. The project also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 as a special guest. Their music not only popularizes Ukrainian culture, but also draws attention to important social and environmental issues, including the issue of Chernobyl, making ONUKA a special phenomenon in the music scene.
