Floating Points & San Francisco Ballet Orchestra is a collaborative project between British electronic musician and producer Samuel Shepherd, better known as Floating Points, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra from the United States. Their work blends contemporary electronic music with orchestral traditions and minimalist influences, resulting in a rich and cinematic sound.

The collaboration is best known for Mere Mortals (2024), a large-scale composition written by Floating Points for a ballet production choreographed by Alonzo King and performed by the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. The project highlights Shepherd’s ongoing exploration of the intersection between electronic composition and classical performance.

Before this collaboration, Floating Points earned widespread acclaim through albums such as Elaenia (2015), Crush (2019), and the celebrated collaborative album Promises (2021), created with legendary jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. These works established him as one of the most innovative composers and producers in contemporary music.
