Cold Cave is an American music project from Philadelphia, founded by musician Wesley Eisold. Their sound blends darkwave, synth-pop, post-punk and industrial electronics, creating music that feels dark, cold and atmospheric while remaining highly melodic.

Cold Cave began as Eisold’s solo project in 2007 following his involvement in the hardcore and noise scenes. Their breakthrough full-length album, Love Comes Close, was released in 2009 and attracted wider attention with its combination of vintage synthesizers, post-punk aesthetics and modern electronic production. Notable tracks include “Confetti,” “Life Magazine,” “The Great Pan Is Dead,” and “Glory.” Later releases such as Cherish the Light Years (2011), Fate in Seven Lessons (2021) and Passion Depression (2023) continued to develop the project’s dark electronic identity.

What makes Cold Cave distinctive is the balance between the bleak atmosphere of darkwave and the energy of dance-oriented electronic music. Drawing strongly from the sounds of the 1980s while avoiding simple nostalgia, Cold Cave transform retro influences into something dramatic, modern and experimental.
