The Yamaha A-S2200 complete amplifier is part of the updated A-S brand line, built on the traditions of the company's classic Hi-Fi school, as evidenced by the presence on the front panel of signal level arrow indicators with soft backlighting, the intensity of which can be changed. The model received a body with adjustable silver-plated brass legs and a large number of controls on the frontal aluminum panel. The elegant appearance of the amplifier is provided by the wooden sides covered with piano varnish.

The design uses fully symmetrical circuitry with low output impedance. A powerful high-performance toroidal transformer with four separate circuits is installed in the power supply unit. The boards of the right and left channels are spaced on different sides of the case in order to minimize their influence on each other. The ground circuit uses cables with a large cross-sectional area, which corresponds to the company's concept of low resistance and, according to Yamaha, has a positive effect on the formation of a wide and open soundstage. The model is capable of producing 160 W of maximum power at a load of 4 ohms.

Yamaha A-S2200 pays a lot of attention to the so-called Mechanical Ground Concept, which eliminates unwanted vibrations. The power supply transformer, heatsinks and a set of four buffer capacitors are rigidly bolted to the chassis, while the leg mounts are welded to the chassis.

On the rear panel there is a set of linear RCA inputs, as well as two balanced input connectors with the ability to change the phase and adjust the level of the input signal. There is a phono stage input and a "loop" for connecting recording devices (CD recorder, cassette deck, etc.). There is a direct input to the amplification section, thanks to which the Yamaha A-S2200 can be turned into a power amplifier and used in conjunction with a separate amplifier. There is a trigger input and IR connectors. Four pairs of screw terminals made of brass, which have an original shape and look very impressive, deserve special attention. A universal remote control can be used to control the amplifier.
