There are things that look like speakers, and there are things that look like speakers — but are actually full-fledged audio systems. Triangle Borea BR03 Connect belong to the latter category. The French manufacturer, which has been honing its acoustic craft for over forty years, has packed an amplifier, DAC, phono preamplifier, and an almost exhaustive list of digital and analog inputs into a compact case. The result is a pair of bookshelf speakers that are ready to play from any source: from a vinyl player to a smartphone, from a TV to a computer.
A 2x60W Class D amplifier drives a 16cm natural cellulose paper cone woofer and a 25mm silk dome tweeter – a classic combination for the French sound school that Triangle has used in several generations of the Borea series. The tweeter is mounted in its own EFS (Efficient Flow System): the membrane is placed inside the horn, which minimizes edge effects and ensures clean, detailed reproduction of high frequencies.
The BR03 Connect offers five digital and three analogue inputs, as well as a mono output for a subwoofer. Connections include Bluetooth aptX HD wireless, HDMI ARC input for the TV, USB-B, coaxial and optical digital inputs, MM phono input, RCA connector and 3.5mm minijack.
Separately, it is worth noting HDMI ARC: by connecting the TV with a single cable, the speakers synchronize with the remote control thanks to CEC technology - no additional remotes, no unnecessary fuss. And the connection via USB-B allows you to fully unleash the potential of the built-in DAC in computer mode - for recording, gaming or monitoring.
The Bluetooth module supports aptX HD with audio transmission in 24-bit / 48 kHz format, and the built-in DAC based on the ESS chip supports PCM stream with a sampling frequency of up to 384 kHz / 32 bit and native DSD 256.
The DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System), developed by Triangle, uses a high-density EVA foam gasket between the speaker and the internal stiffening ribs of the case - this significantly dampens vibrations and does not transmit them to the cabinet. The result is a neutral, uncolored sound even at high volumes.
Under the base of each speaker are rubber pads that protect the surface and further isolate the cabinet from vibrations. The protective grilles are attached with magnets - no visible screws or inserts.
