The Tonar Window Weight is a medium weight (350g) stabilizer that is needed to secure a record to the player's support disk. It reduces vibrational distortion, improves bass reproduction and prevents the record from slipping. The Tonar Window Weight has no thread and no collet.
Any vibrations during playback will be picked up by the cartridge, transmitted by the amplifier and reproduced by the speakers, causing muddy sound, distortion, and reduced detail. To avoid this, you must make sure that the contact between the plate and the support disk is perfect.
Also, many of the older discs may be slightly warped. Not much at all, but enough for uneven movement. This causes great problems for the diamond stylus of the cartridge, which is intended to follow the grooves carefully. Stylus pressure fluctuates as the stylus moves up and down trying to track the skew. All this gives bad results: dirty reproduction of sound with distortions, and, if the drive of the player is not very powerful, a noticeable flutter. In some cases, the stylus can actually lose contact with the groove, causing a hissing sound. The Tonar Window Weight will press the record against the player's support disc, the surface of the disc will now be smoothed, and this will lead to a dramatic improvement in the sound reproduction of old records.
