Description
Sumiko Wellfleet is the top of the Sumiko MM line, and it is clear from the first minutes. It sounds massive, clean and very confident. This is no longer just a “good MM”, but a cartridge that makes you wonder if you even need an MC in your system.
Its main strength is detail and space. Thanks to a more complex needle profile (like line contact), Wellfleet reads the maximum information from the groove. The upper range becomes extremely airy and accurate - cymbals sound natural, strings have a silky texture, and reverberations and micronuances literally come to life in the room.
The midrange is transparent and lively. Vocals are delivered with very good microdynamics: intonations, breathing, small changes in timbre are audible. Instruments do not stick together, each has its place in space. The stage is wide and deep, with clear localization and a stable center.
The bass is fast, structured and well-controlled. It is not smeared or overloaded - there is rhythm, there is clarity, there is a foundation. This allows the system to sound collected even on complex recordings.
Wellfleet scales perfectly with the quality of the tonearm and phono stage. In a simpler system it already sounds convincing, and in a more serious one it opens up very deeply, almost at the level of good MC cartridges.
Sumiko Wellfleet is an ideal option for those who want maximum detail and space from the MM format without switching to MC. This is a mature, accurate and at the same time musical cartridge - vinyl at its best.
