The Rega Planar 3 RS Edition (Rega Special) is manufactured using an all-new aluminum-coated HPL laminate to create the toughest Planar 3 level table we have ever produced. This striking dark brushed metal plinth, edged with a high gloss black finish, creates a stunning base for the iconic Planar 3 model. The RS Edition includes a specially selected Neo MK2 power supply with each motor's vibration circuit manually tuned for each individual motor. This low-noise 24-volt motor drives the platter with our Reference EBLT drive belt, providing maximum speed control precision. Finally, the legendary handcrafted RB330 tonearm is fitted and comes with the new award-winning Nd5 moving magnet cartridge.
For many years, Rega has been a pioneer in the use of lightweight, ultra-strong tables. The use of lightweight, high-strength phenolic resin core was the basis for the high level of performance achieved by the already iconic original Planar line.
The new Planar 3 RS Edition takes this design philosophy to the next level by utilizing the high-pressure laminate (HPL) commonly used in the Planar 6, Planar 8 and Planar 10 models to increase rigidity. Additionally, this premium HPL features a stunning brushed metallic dark aluminum body with a beautiful satin finish. You'll also find our dual spacer system installed specifically where increased stiffness is required (between the tonearm mount and the main hub bearing), which forms a structurally sound “stress beam”.
This sophisticated plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance that adds unnatural distortion to the music. In addition, a larger mass can transmit more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise, directly to the spinning record. The use of braces allows for the use of double the thickness of phenolic resin in these key locations, which directly addresses the problem of mass absorption and unwanted energy transfer.
