There are cables that simply sell, and there are those whose existence must be scientifically proven. Genesis Silver Spiral is QED's award-winning flagship speaker cable, the result of over four decades of research and development. The basis for this work was the so-called Genesis Report - a large-scale scientific study of the impact of speaker cables on the performance of a Hi-Fi system, initiated by QED back in 1994, which proved that speaker cables really do matter for sound. Genesis Silver Spiral is a direct embodiment of these findings.
The design is based on a unique triple concentric spiral geometry that provides extremely low resistance, capacitance and inductance of the cable. Nine bundles of silver-plated conductors made of 99.999% pure oxygen-free copper form a massive cross-section of 5.5 mm². This cross-section, according to the brand, gives the cable effortless dynamic freedom and powerful, stable bass delivery.
QED cables with a cross-section of more than 2.5 mm² use air core technology, which eliminates the skin effect by combining several individually insulated smaller conductors into a larger overall cross-section. When these conductors are arranged around a hollow central polyethylene core, the cable's own inductance can be reduced by approximately half compared to the calculated one.
The exceptionally low resistance of the Silver Spiral allows the amplifier to maintain precise control over the speaker systems, especially at low frequencies. This means that the voltage drop across the cable during operation is so small that it does not audibly affect the frequency response of the speaker - unlike cables with higher impedance, where this effect is noticeable. Together, these factors help to keep the damping factor of the amplifier virtually unchanged.
