Description
The Xtension 10 Evolution is the culmination of Pro-Ject's years of turntable design experience, packed into a single device. There's nothing superfluous here: each component solves a specific task, each technical solution is aimed at one thing - to ensure that there are no obstacles between the recording and your ear.
The 10.3 kg and 300 mm diameter disc is machined from aluminium with an internal damping ring made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The top layer of the disc is covered with vinyl - it forms an ideal contact surface with the record and additionally dampens residual resonances. This mass distribution gives a pronounced flywheel effect, which ensures speed stability of ±0.09%, and detonation and vibration do not exceed ±0.01%.
The heavy disc rotates on an inverted stainless steel bearing and a ceramic ball with antimagnetic support. Magnetic unloading reduces pressure on the fulcrum, minimizing wear and noise level of the bearing. The signal-to-noise ratio is 73 dB.
Three powerful magnetic feet actually lift the player off the surface - it floats above it, isolating itself from mechanical and acoustic vibrations from the outside. According to Pro-Ject, the legs are one of the most important components of the turntable, and that is why the most efficient solution was chosen for the Xtension 10.
A belt drive from a precision DC motor with an AC generator provides a clean and stable power signal without network interference. Three speeds - 33, 45 and 78 rpm - are switched at the touch of a button.
The effective length of the tonearm is 254 mm, the projection is 16 mm, the effective mass is 8.5 g. The pressure range is 10–30 mN. Four counterweights of different masses are included for compatibility with heads from 4 to 14 g.
