A vinyl record player is a mechanism in which even the most expensive cartridge is powerless if the platter rotates unevenly. In the Essential III and Jukebox E models, this evenness is ensured by one simple but critically important detail - the original Pro-Ject drive belt, designed precisely for the kinematics of these players.
Essential III and Jukebox E are turntables built on the philosophy of "fewer parts, fewer problems." The belt drive here is not just a tribute to tradition, but a conscious choice: a rubber belt mechanically uncouples the motor and platter, dampening the vibrations of the motor before they even have time to reach the needle. But that is precisely why the condition of the belt directly determines the quality of the sound - stretched or stiff rubber immediately makes itself felt with unstable speed and "floating" sound.
Rubber is a material with a finite service life. Even without intensive use, the belt gradually loses elasticity, and grease or dust from the pulley can provoke slipping. If the record sounds a little "not like" as before, or a slight tremor of the tone has appeared - this is almost always the first signal to check the belt before suspecting the cartridge or phono equalizer.
The Pro-Ject belt is made to exact dimensions and tension, calculated by the brand's engineers specifically for the Essential III and Jukebox E. This guarantees the correct rotation speed (33⅓ and 45 rpm) without additional adjustment or the risk of premature wear of the motor bearing due to improper tension.
The platter is removed, the old belt is carefully removed from the pulley, and a new one is put in its place - no tools or special skills are required. A small preventive action that immediately returns the player to a confident, smooth sound.
