SPU Royal GM MKII

This cartridge combines the legendary design of the SPU series with modern refinements that emphasize the dynamics, spaciousness and tonal balance of analog sound.

In 1958, Ortofon introduced the world-famous SPU stereo cartridge. The dedication to manufacturing the SPU for over half a century reflects the enduring appeal and craftsmanship of this design. The SPU remains the only Ortofon stereo cartridge in continuous production since 1958, earning a reputation for outstanding analog sound that is second to none. A key feature of the SPU is its integrated headshell, designed to fit directly into classic removable-head tonearms such as the SME 3009 and 3012, as well as other tonearms with a similar “universal” H-4, 8mm bayonet mount.

The Nude Ortofon Replicant 100 stylus sharpening allows you to track the recording groove with incredible accuracy, while the reduced stylus weight provides an open and detailed sound reproduction for an absolutely refined listening experience. The cartridge body is a classic SPU series case made of polished wood covered with black lacquer.

Silver wire covered with "Electrum" gold is used to wind the coil, and cobalt-added magnets are used to achieve the optimal output signal level. The SPU Royal GM MKII has a low output signal of only 0.2 mV, which, combined with a low impedance of 7 ohms, requires careful selection of a phono equalizer or step-up transformer.
