The Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge, like all models in the series, features MI (Moving Iron) construction. Nagaoka has improved this technology and named its cartridges MP (Moving Permalloy). The design principle is that the electrical signal in the fixed coils of the cartridge is generated by the movement of a small piece of magnetically soft metal (in this case, permalloy), which is in the field of a powerful samarium-cobalt magnet. MP cartridges largely combine the advantages of classic MM models (high signal strength and simple load characteristics) and MC pickups (lightweight moving system and thus a wide frequency range).
