But for audiophiles who also want the powerful bass depth of a full-fledged floorstanding system, Jones designed the SourcePoint 888—a model named after the three 8-inch drivers that form its three-way architecture. The engineer spent a year working on the project in his own California studio, without any rush or corporate pressure—and the result speaks for itself.
At the top of the speaker is the same proprietary concentric unit: an 8-inch paper-cone midrange driver, centered around a 1.25-inch soft-dome tweeter. Unlike the younger models in the series, this pair is freed from the need to reproduce the lowest frequencies — this work is taken on by two separate 8-inch woofers with oppositely directed neodymium magnets, working in tandem below 130 Hz. This division of responsibilities allows the concentric driver to focus exclusively on the mid and high frequencies, where most of the musical information and emotional color of the voice are born.
Thanks to a pair of powerful woofers and a voluminous enclosure, the SourcePoint 888 demonstrates significantly greater bass extension compared to the shelf models in the series — the frequency range reaches 32 Hz from below. The speaker retains Jones' signature warm texture, rich low-mids, and exceptional time-to-frequency coherence that is a hallmark of the SourcePoint line.
Thick MDF panels with a branched internal bracing create an extremely rigid, resonance-free cabinet. A multi-faceted sculpted baffle eliminates the diffraction of sound waves—a common problem with flat front panels—leaving only what the speaker itself produces in the sound, free of cabinet overtones. Magnetic fabric grilles precisely follow the multi-faceted baffle profile and are easily removable for the cleanest listening experience.
The SourcePoint 888 is available in three furniture-grade, natural wood veneer finishes with a mirrored grain pattern on both speakers: warm Satin Walnut, understated, professional Satin Black Ash, and exclusive to this model, contemporary Satin White Ash.
