MA252
Description
The first hybrid integrated amplifier in the McIntosh catalog was the MA252. It is largely based on the classic tube MC275, but does not lose the advantages of transistor sound.
Product information
The preamplifier part is based on two pairs of tubes - 12AX7a and 12AT7, the tubes themselves are covered with protective covers. The output stage is transistorized and delivers 100 W per channel into 8 ohms or 160 W per channel into 4 ohms. It has two unbalanced, one balanced and one MM phono inputs, each of which can be named at your discretion. The outputs are all gold-plated. A tone control is also provided, which will allow you to customize the sound to your tastes.
Traditionally for modern McIntosh, the radiators repeat the brand's logo. The MA252 is the first tube amplifier to use PowerGuard technology, which monitors the output signal level and prevents clipping and overloading that can damage the acoustics. The lamps serve as an indicator of the signal status: they light up amber if the protection system has to work on this channel, and green if everything is fine.
Other technologies used in the amplifier are Sentry Monitor and High Drive headphone amplifier. The controls on the front panel and the included remote control are provided for control. All settings are displayed on the OLED display.
