PM10 Black
Description
The Marantz PM-10 model is listed in the Premium 10 reference series and, in fact, is a preamplifier and two final monoblocks placed in one housing. Each monoblock includes two amplifier stages (2 modules), uses a separate switching power supply (class D) and operates in bridge mode. As a result, the device produces 200 W per channel at 8 ohms, 2 x 400 W (4 ohms) and can cope with even the most demanding speakers, while providing powerful, accurate and dynamic sound.
Product information
Marantz began back in the 1950s as a manufacturer of amplifiers such as the famous Audio Consolette preamp and has since created many classic products, from the 7/8 preamp/power amplifier model all the way to the massive T1 tube amplifier project in the 1990s. years. So it makes sense that the Marantz PM-10 amplifier in the new reference series should also be something special.
The PM-10 is essentially a preamplifier and a pair of monoblock power amplifiers in one package. It uses switching amplification technology to deliver enormous power - 200 W per channel into 8 ohms or 400 W per channel into 4 ohms - to ensure it can drive a wide variety of speakers and deliver large currents instantly, and to ensure it can convey the dynamic contrasts of even the most demanding musical passages.
In terms of power supplies, the PM-10 has separate blocks for the preamp and each of the power amplifier channels to ensure that the weak signals passing through the preamp are independent from the high currents of the output stages. There is also a separate power supply for the microprocessor that controls volume control, input selection, etc., which ensures that there is no noise from the control section in the audio path.
The PM-10's circuitry is fully balanced from the input section to the power amplifier final stage: there are two sets of balanced inputs, as well as a pair of conventional unbalanced line inputs (plus a high-quality phono stage), and the signals from these inputs are converted to balanced before entering the amplifier. This ensures maximum signal purity and interference suppression.
The preamp circuitry uses Marantz's famous Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules (or HDAMs), which are tiny amplifiers assembled from discrete components for the best sound quality, rather than op-amp chips, as is common among competitors.
For maximum audio quality, the PM-10 features a "Purest Mode" - where all unnecessary circuits are turned off, giving the signal the purest possible path through the amplifier. There is also a "Power Amp Direct" mode - feeding the signal directly from the input section to the powerful stages of the PM-10 - so it turns into a pure power amplifier.
Like the SA-10, the PM-10 is built to the highest standards, with a dual-layer copper-plated chassis for superior mechanical and electrical noise rejection, and a body constructed from thick, solid, non-magnetic aluminum panels. Both products rest on custom cast aluminum feet.
The speaker terminals are special here, too: while even the toughest rivals tend to use third-party components, the PM-10 features new, exclusive Marantz SPKT-100+ terminals made from ultra-pure copper.
