There is a persistent myth that true high-end sound is only possible in a system with a separate preamplifier and a powerful amplifier. The LUXMAN L-509Z shatters this stereotype completely. It is the flagship of the new generation of Z-Series, built according to the philosophy of "distributors in one housing" - when the advantages of a fully discrete architecture are combined in a sophisticated single chassis, without any compromises in dynamics, detail or control.
For the first time in Luxman history, both the preamplifier and amplifier sections simultaneously operate on the new generation of feedback circuitry LIFES (Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System). It is based on the proprietary ODNF technology, which compensates only for distorted signal components, leaving the natural musical pattern virtually untouched. The output stage is built on triple-parallel bipolar Darlington transistors in a push-pull configuration - a solution that, in terms of linearity and stability, approaches a separate powerful amplifier.
The L-509Z delivers 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms and an impressive 220 watts into 4 ohms - this is enough to confidently rock even demanding studio monitors or heavy floor-standing speakers. The 330 damping factor ensures iron control over the low-frequency speakers, and the level of nonlinear distortion below 0.007% at 1 kHz leaves room only for pure music - without unnecessary overtones.
Special mention deserves the new LECUA-EX electronic attenuator system - an 88-step regulator on precision resistors, which works in tandem with a new heavy rotation mechanism. The result is the same tactile, "analog" response of the volume knob, which fans of classic amplifiers are accustomed to, but without any signal degradation over time.
On the rear panel - a real wealth of possibilities: four line RCA inputs, two balanced XLR, a Main In input for operation in the mode of a separate power amplifier, as well as a built-in MM/MC phono equalizer with MC-H/MC-L gain switching for a wide range of vinyl cartridges. There is a dual Pre Out for system expansion, three-band fine correction (bass/mid/high) and two headphone outputs — 6.3 mm and balanced 4.4 mm.
Inside — a proprietary high-inertia power supply on a custom-made 600 VA EI transformer with a large number of copper windings and eight block capacitors of 10,000 μF each. This is the stability of the power supply that allows the amplifier to maintain the composition even at the loudest dynamic peaks without any hint of sound compression.
A thick aluminum top with elegant grinding, massive cast insulator legs with a gradient of material density for vibration damping, as well as two large backlit VU meters with an arrow indicator — a Luxman design signature that immediately gives the device a real Japanese high-end.
