Stanley 2 is a concentrated, intimate delivery: precise, restrained, impeccably honest. Bigger cabinet, bigger air volume, bigger room-filling ability - but no compromise on what makes the Universal series the Universal series.
At the heart of the Stanley 2 is the same 5-inch Lockwood Green HPD/SL coaxial driver with an alnico magnet as in the Stanley 1. The principle of the “point source” is unchanged: a high-frequency dome in the center of the diffuser, sound from a single point, a linear phase from the upper bass to the air of the cymbals. But the floor-standing design allows the driver to work in more acoustically optimal conditions - a larger volume of the cabinet means deeper, denser bass and a higher sound pressure level without any signs of overload.
A closed cabinet without a phase inverter made of 18-millimeter birch plywood - the same ideology of control and precision as in the younger model. No artificial rise in the lower register, no port resonances: the bass here is subordinate to the music, not vice versa. The Lockwood A series crossover is hand-assembled, the interior trim is OFC cable.
260mm wide and just 165mm deep – at 995mm high. Stanley 2 takes up minimal floor space but makes a huge statement in the space: vertical, slender, with carefully balanced proportions of every edge and surface. This is a speaker that looks thoughtful whether it’s in a minimalist Scandinavian interior or a warm studio room with vinyl shelving.
Stanley 2 is designed for those who found Stanley 1 too small for a large room, but who aren’t ready to step up to the massive flagships of the Academy or Major lines. It fills the space with an effortless authority that’s rarely found in speakers of this physical size – and yet retains the same detail, the same stage, the same character.
