The Lockwood LE1 is the same monitor that Led Zeppelin and Queen used to listen to their own recordings during the mixing process, trusted by Bob Marley, Black Sabbath and dozens of other artists who shaped the sound of several eras. Now this legend is available for home listening - and it hasn't changed a single principle.
Unlike the younger Academy and Academy II models, the LE1 uses a bass-reflex cabinet — a vented design made of 18 mm birch plywood. This is a fundamental difference: the port allows the 15-inch speaker to breathe more freely, reproducing lower bass with more volume and depth. The lower limit is 23 Hz: it is no longer just “felt in the chest”, it is the physical presence of the sound in the room.
The same 15-inch Lockwood Green HPD/SL coaxial speaker — the heart of all the flagships of the line — here receives ideal conditions for disclosure: a larger cabinet, more air volume, more freedom for the bass. The sensitivity of 95 dB means that the LE1 lives and breathes even from a few watts of a tube amplifier.
The coaxial “point source” principle is particularly impressive here: the 15-inch cone and the tweeter dome in its center emit sound from a single point in space - and at the same time fill the room from floor to ceiling. The linear amplitude and phase response that this principle provides is what studio sound engineers valued above all else: no comb filters between the bands, no “mush” in space. Just pure, unaltered music.
The Lockwood A series crossover is hand-assembled, with selected components and an internal OFC cable. Tom Evans Audio Design pure copper terminals close the circuit without unnecessary losses.
At 602 mm wide, 1110 mm high - the LE1 takes up space in the room not only physically, but also acoustically. The wide baffle forms a stage with a natural width and depth that narrow modern designs simply cannot physically reproduce. The walnut veneer on the body is unique to each pair, like the craftsman's signature.
