The R3 impresses with its music reproduction capabilities and this is not surprising, since this speaker system has the same woofer as the top-of-the-range R11 model. A true three-way speaker with a 165mm woofer takes bass performance to new extreme levels. The 125mm mid-driver and 25mm aluminum dome tweeter are combined into a Uni-Q module, adding confidence to the smallest speaker in the range.
By placing the tweeter in the acoustic center of the mid-frequency dome driver, you create a monolithic sound source that allows you to evenly fill the space with flawless natural sound. The new R Series features the twelfth generation Uni-Q speaker, which was created using extensive computer modeling and KEF analysis tools. KEF engineers were able to dramatically reduce sound coloration by significantly reducing resonance in individual parts of the Uni-Q speaker. As a result, the sound is cleaner, more accurate and the perception of the stereo image is much more real.
A rigid cabinet is a necessary requirement for great sound. Thanks to a special damping layer that absorbs residual vibrations, any sidewall resonances, stray reflections or cabinet coloring effects that could compromise sound clarity are eliminated.
When it comes to producing deep, defined bass, bass reflex port design is key. The FI port of the R series is made with new soft walls, its shape was calculated using hydrodynamic calculations. The profile and shape of each port is designed to slow turbulence and prevent coloration at mid frequencies
