Switching from MM to MC is always a matter of not only desire, but also system readiness. Usually, an MC cartridge requires either a separate MC phono stage or a step-up transformer. Gold Note Donatello Red solves this problem differently: the high output voltage of 1.8 mV allows you to connect a full-fledged MC cartridge directly to a regular MM input of the amplifier. No transformers, no additional costs - just the pure advantage of a moving coil in your system.
The Donatello Red body is machined from a solid block of duralumin and weighs just 7g. This is not just a pretty figure: the low mass means compatibility with a wide range of tonearms without the risk of overloading. The shape of the body was developed using computer simulation after two years of engineering research - every plane, angle and radius are subordinated to one goal: to minimize parasitic resonances and give the cantilever maximum freedom for precise tracking.
The diamond with a microellipse sharpening is mechanically fixed in an elongated rigid aluminum cantilever, which in turn is placed in a special titanium telescopic cage. This design significantly increases the structural rigidity of the cantilever-needle holder assembly - a critical point on which the accuracy of the reading depends. The result: a frequency range of 10-35,000 Hz, channel resolution of more than 24 dB and channel balance within 1 dB.
The Donatello Red generator unit is built on a samarium-cobalt magnet - a material with an extremely stable and strong magnetic field - in combination with a copper coil. This pair provides fast, accurate response to impulses and natural transmission of timbres without excessive brightness or "analytical" coldness, which sometimes appear in cheap MC solutions.
The Donatello Red's long gold-plated pin contacts are designed to tightly connect to the tonearm terminals without play - this reduces energy dissipation and improves grounding. Contact force 1.8-2.1 g, impedance 140 ohms, recommended load 47 kΩ - standard MM input. Mounting is standard.
