Chord Clearway HDMI AOC is a full-fledged HDMI cable with active optical technology inside, designed to transmit signals over distances where conventional copper is already giving up.
Unlike TOSLINK, where the entire signal is transmitted over optical fibers, HDMI AOC is a hybrid of seven copper wires and four optical fibers. The advantage of optics is that it is not susceptible to high-frequency interference, which cannot be said about copper. Chord Company took care that the copper conductors were also fully protected from external RF noise - that is why the cable received an outer PVC sheath with double aluminum foil shielding.
Clearway HDMI AOC uses the highest quality chipset at both ends of the cable and the highest class OM3 glass fiber with a bandwidth of over 10 Gbps - instead of the typical OM2 with a bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps.
The cable has a bandwidth of 48 Gbps with support for 10K @ 30 Hz, 8K @ 60 Hz or 4K @ 120 Hz resolutions. The cable supports Dynamic HDR, HDCP 2.3, eARC, 3D and all HDMI audio formats. Additional features include Source-based Tone Mapping (SBTM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Quick Media Switching (QMS).
The cable configuration is four optical fibers and seven copper wires, insulated with polyethylene foam with a double aluminum foil shield and PVC jacket. HDMI connectors are with gold-plated copper jacket and 19 gold-plated contacts, hand soldering and assembly, protective zinc alloy housing.
The cable is available in lengths of 3, 5, 8, 10, 12.5, 15 and 20 meters. Despite the affordable price of the Clearway line, the cable comes with a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
