The compact two-way wireless speaker B&W Formation Flex is part of the Formation series, known for its exotic design and high-quality sound. The speaker features a slightly convex cylindrical enclosure with a frame structure made of inert composite material, covered with acoustically transparent fabric.
The model is equipped with a 25-mm tweeter (similar to the high-frequency drivers of the 600 series), featuring a double-dome diaphragm and vibration decoupling from the housing, which improves the quality of high-frequency reproduction. The midrange and bass are handled by a 100-mm midwoofer with a lightweight, rigid woven fiberglass cone. Each driver is powered by a dedicated built-in 50W amplifier. Signal processing is managed by a high-speed digital signal processor, while a Dynamic EQ ensures precise sound tuning.
The B&W Formation Flex model comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules that support aptX HD, AAC, and SBC codecs, with the first enabling wireless audio playback close to high-resolution audio formats. AirPlay and AirPlay 2 protocols are available for interaction with Apple devices. The speaker seamlessly integrates into the proprietary wireless mesh network using Formation technology, independent of Wi-Fi networks. In this network, Formation components communicate through synchronized transceivers, ensuring perfect synergy and minimal latency for all Formation audio systems (synchronization within one microsecond), along with 24-bit/96 kHz signal transmission capability.
The speaker supports the Spotify Connect streaming service and is compatible with the multifunctional Roon network platform. Access to local network audio files is provided via Wi-Fi or LAN port. The B&W Formation Flex is controlled using touch buttons located on the top of the housing or through a smartphone/tablet app for iOS or Android.
Two B&W Formation Flex speakers can be paired to create a stereo system or used as rear speakers in a 5.1-channel home theater setup, including a 3-channel soundbar and a subwoofer from the Formation series.
