The X series magnetic motor system uses double copper caps on the pole rings to achieve high flux and low inductance. The use of copper caps was borrowed from Børresen's Z series. Copper reacts to changes in flux - the better the resistance of these copper rings, the flatter the inductance curve and the lower the electromagnetic resonance. In addition, lower inductance means fewer spikes in the impedance curve. Both result in less load on the amplifier. To ensure high efficiency, the X-Series has two pole rings. This results in a loss of some flux, which reduces efficiency, but this is compensated by the larger magnet.
The X-Series membrane consists of three layers laminated together: two layers of stretched carbon fiber, with a layer of aramid honeycomb gaskets between them. The combination of these materials gives the membrane its unique properties. The stretched carbon fiber was designed to provide optimal stiffness. This unique feature of the membrane reduces vibrations and resonances that interfere with sound to an unprecedented level. Aramid honeycomb also has the best stiffness-to-weight ratio in the vertical direction. The flat-response diaphragm paved the way for a very transparent loudspeaker with a reduced size of the magnetic motor system to optimize costs.
The tweeter chosen for the Børresen X series is the same design as in all other Børresen speaker series. However, the weight of the magnet and iron has been reduced. This was made possible by the extremely high efficiency of the original tweeter design. As a result, the efficiency has only slightly decreased from an exceptional 94 dB to 90 dB, but this is still an amazing figure for a tweeter.
The cabinet is made of a wood-composite material that has the ability to eliminate sound distortion. The material used for the cabinet also reduces mechanical effects, especially hysteresis. The sound result is clearly audible. X-Series is equipped with phase inverter ports for low frequencies. The tweeter is ventilated to compensate for air pressure build-up. The bass section consists of tuned ports calibrated to musically relevant frequencies.
